Many years ago we stumbled upon a large old farmhouse in Southern Andalucia, Southern Spain called Cortijo Las Salinas and from there on a love affair with the house, the country, the traditions and the people of Spain began.
A major restoration project was necessary to turn the former run down rural farmhouse into the exceptional and spectacular rural villa it is today. Before we took the brave step to live in Spain permanently, Steve was an antique furniture restorer, French polisher and had carried out restoration on period listed properties and Steffi was an exhibiting artist and art teacher. We both felt we had the necessary talents, artistic skills and vision to take on this major restoration project and today are very proud of what we have achieved.
Today the villa is fully restored and we live in a private part of the cortijo. During your stay at Cortijo Las Salinas, we will always be available if required assistance with local information, directions, shopping, historic city and cultural visits. We can also arrange Spanish lessons, cookery lessons, help with cooking food in the traditional clay bread oven, enjoy a yoga session or to take an inspired art class with Steffi.
Steve is a talented chef and enjoys foods from different parts of the world. Living in Spain has increased his thirst for knowledge about local Andalucian cuisine and the cortijo has a fully equipped cooking area where he tries out his new recipes. He also has a website called Cooking in Spain, This Delicious Life where he has his recipes and a blog on cooking and life in rural Spain.
Practicing artist, yoga teacher and masseur, Steffi can often be seen out on location complete with paint, brushes and canvas and her studio doubles up as her gallery where her paintings of the local landscape are displayed and are for sale. Steffi writes a blog about art, yoga, Marmite and living in rural Spain.
